The limitations of free-space and space-based timing from GPS and other global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) is well-established. So, just like space-based communications, there is a movement towards using optical links to improve precision and resiliency against jamming and spoofing. This presentation will provide insights into the new developments in space-based optical systems, and how this could be used to address the challenges inherent with optical time transfer, as well as quantum time transfer that uses entangled photons.
