Moving Towards Higher Performance Boundary Clocks

Tuesday | 11:10 - 11:30 am

On path support for PTP transport to deliver a given timing service performance requires that the appropriate time error budget be allocated to each Boundary Clock in the path.  With the continual trend towards tighter overall time service performance there is an evolution in performance classes defined by ITU. Starting with Class A there is active work on performance classes that are ten fold tighter. This paper summarized the ITU performance class landscape and presents results showing that this ten fold performance improvement can be supported with software upgrade if certain core hardware based parameters are supported.  Both steady state and the real world faults scenarios will be presented.
