Elizabeth Laier English

Scientist
National Physical Laboratory

Elizabeth Laier English is a Research Scientist at the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL). She works in the Time and Frequency group, on the generation of the UK’s Time Scale UTC(NPL) and precise time transfer techniques over optical fibre. She is leading work packages for the European projects CLONETS (Clock Network Services) and WRITE (White Rabbit for Industrial Timing Enhancement), towards a pan-European fibre optic time and frequency network for applications in science and industry. Elizabeth studied in London at UCL and Imperial College and has a PhD in Laser Physics. This was followed by a fellowship at the RIKEN Institute laser technology lab in Tokyo, and postdoctoral research in the Paris Observatory’s optical frequency metrology group.
